VALUES

OUR BEGINNING

ASSOCIATION OF PACIFIC ISLAND LEGISLATURES

Our mission is to deliver medical support, human services and developmental assistance throughout the Pacific region.

Our vision is that all people of the Pacific will have access to medical care, food and water.

  • Human Dignity

  • Volunteerism

  • Compassion

  • Community

Ayuda Foundation was founded in 1996 by Carlotta Leon Guerrero, who served as a Senator in the Guam Legislature (1994 to 2000), Dr. Mike Cruz of the Guam Medical Society, and Christine Nilsen of Continental Micronesia (now United Airlines). The organization was comprised of these programs:  Medical Missions to Micronesia, Reach Out & Reach Early Literacy Program, AIDS Education Project, Island Girl Power, and Books to Schools.

Ayuda Foundation was formed to help the 12 member governments of APIL, Association of Pacific Island Legislatures, with medical assistance (medicine, equipment and medical missions), humanitarian assistance (food, water, home supplies and construction materials), supplies and education.  Representing a vast region of Pacific Island peoples, APIL member governments joined together in 1981 to form an association with sufficient capability and permanence to address, in depth, the substantive regional and international issues facing emerging Pacific governments. Ayuda Foundation operates with the full support of APIL and together we share a vision for healthy communities and sustainable development throughout our Pacific Islands.
